Katrina "Carrie" Jonsdotter was born in the village of Mo in Gavleborg County. Family spelled her name Jonsdotter. A Swedish church emigration record says Jansdotter.
Sometime after their marriage and the birth of their 3 children Jons and Katrina "Carrie" Jonsdotter moved to Skog, also in Gavleborg County, where they lived until August 22, 1887 when they, their granddaughter, Katarina, and their daughter, Kristina (Christina) departed from Hernebo, Skog Parish, Gavleborg County for the United States. They are listed as Jons Persson, Katrina Jansdotter, Katarina Persdotter Tornell and Kerstin Jonsdotter on transcriptions of Swedish church emigration records.
The family departed Christiana, Norway on about September 1, 1887 on the ship Thingvalla. They arrived in New York on September 16, 1887. They are listed on the Thingvalla passenger list as Jons Person, Karen Person, Christine Person and Cathrine Person. They joined Jons and Katrina's sons, John and Peter, and the rest of Peter's family (who immigrated in 1882) at Marquette, Hamilton County, Nebraska.
Oral family history suggests that John's wife Anna Katrina Wikstorm and their children, Peter, Anna, Maria and John George, travelled with Jons and family. However, Swedish church records show them departing Sweden on July 24, 1887, a slightly earlier date. And, there does not appear to be any record of them travelling on the ship
Katrina "Carrie" and Jons adopted the surname Tunall after coming to the United States.
